At the movies

I read this movie meme from missv and, being the movie geek that I am, I just had to grab and answer the extended version from delicious days! So, lights, rolling and… action!

1. Name a movie you have seen more than 10 times

Well, the animated version of Asterix and Cleopatra was the first movie I was obsessed with when I was a little kid, then it was Errol Flynn’s Robin Hood… More recently, the first one that comes to mind is The Fugitive (1994, with Harrison Ford): I was starting to understand spoken English and was one of the most entertaining original versions we had at home. And what’s more, I could never grow tired of it! Even watched it twice in a row some day…

2. Name a movie you’ve seen multiple times in the theater

I’ve seen many movies many times in the theater (mostly when it was not as expensive as it is now), but of course, when it comes to name them I just can’t! Let me think of at least some of them… Titanic, The Mask, The Others, Kill Bill vol.1 (here, I actually wanted to get the Japanese dialogues, as the first time I saw it, they were subtitled in Swedish, which, alas, is not a language I master -yet! ;) ), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

3. Name an actor who would make you more inclined to see a movie

Jake Gyllenhaal, Cate Blanchett (missv is SO right!), Cary Grant, Tobey Maguire, Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver, Scarlett Johansson, Colin Firth, Hugh Jackman, Katherine Hepburn, Jack Lemmon, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jean Réno, Ralph Fiennes, Liv Tyler, Gillian Anderson, Sean Connery. (OK, some of these guys are only there for their looks, but… the question never said it had to be out of sheer talent, eh?)

4. Name an actor who would make you less likely to see a movie

Jim Carrey (at least in a comedy), Adam Sandler, Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, Penélope Cruz (ouch! sorry but I am NOT a fan of -most- Spanish actors…), Sylvester Stallone, Steven Seagal, Rob Schneider… that’s it, enough, I don’t want to cringe anymore!

5. Name a movie you can and do quote from

La Cité de la Peur, Finding Nemo, The Fugitive, The Godfather (who can’t?), Notting Hill, French Kiss, Some Like it Hot…

6. Name a movie musical in which you know all of the lyrics to all of the songs

Easy, the only movie musical I actually like: Singin’ in the Rain -although I may not know all the lyrics now, there was a time when I almost did…

7. Name a movie you have been known to sing along with

Again, Singin’ in the Rain. Hum, maybe Disney’s The Beauty and The Beast when it was out, too…

8. Name a movie you would recommend everyone see

Arsenic and Old Lace, The Philadelphia Stories, Casablanca, Notorious, Finding Nemo, Amélie…

9. Name a movie you own

HA! this is funny… hum, there must be around 200+ DVDs around my TV so… I’ll just say that all of the movies mentioned above are there (except The Beauty and The Beast), along with some Woody Allen, Hitchcock, Lubitsch, James Cameron, Meg Ryan, Bruce Willis, Pixar, Billy Wilder…

10. Name an actor who launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops

mmh… can’t think of anyone just now…

11. Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in?

No, and it’s one of the things I’d love to try once, actually… none of that in Spain, I’m afraid (at least that I know of!).

12. Ever made out in a movie?

Well, I’m afraid I missed much of The Bourne Identity and Cruel Intentions among others, but I think it didn’t matter then (nor now actually)… mmh, it’s actually been a long time since I last missed snippets of a movie because I was in ‘very good company’ –I’ll just say that movie tickets are too expensive, and my neck is not as flexible as it ever was…

13. Name a movie you keep meaning to see but you just haven’t gotten around to yet

La Buena Estrella –some friend lent it to me and it’s already been 2 months… Also, The Good German in theaters now, some classics lying around home too -not enough hours in a day for me!

14. Ever walked out of a movie?

Nope. As I’ve said already, tickets are expensive, and I’ve usually been rather selective with what I go and see… Although I would have left ‘28 days later’ to go on without me, had I not been with some friends…

15. Name a movie that made you cry in the theater

Tears of laughter: Little Miss Sunshine; sad tears: mmmh… nope; happy emotional tears: Amélie

16. Popcorn?

NO WAY

17. How often do you go to the movies

Lately, I’d be lucky to go once a month… oh those good ol’ times when I used to go every Friday…

18. What’s the last movie you saw in the theater?

Little Miss Sunshine, 26th of January… *sigh*

19. What’s your favorite/preferred genre of movie?

Comedies and Thrillers are a tie.

20. What’s the first movie you remember seeing in the theater?

Disney’s Bambi or Peter Pan, can’t remember which came out first…

21. What movie do you wish you had never seen?

28 Days Later or Cruel Intentions -I probably can’t remember any other because I try to erase those wasted moments from my memory…

22. What is the weirdest movie you enjoyed?

mmmh, probably Pi or Happiness, though the latter was not in a theater… and I’m not really sure I fully enjoyed it…

23. What is the scariest movie you’ve seen?

At the theater: probably The Others or The Sixth Sense; at home: The Changeling

24. What is the funniest film you have ever seen?

Little Miss Sunshine had me crying with mirth for the last 15 minutes; also, Alain Chabat’s version of Astérix and Cleopatra or As Good As It Gets, To Be or Not To Be are pretty close up there.

I won’t tag anyone, so feel free to join! Cheers!

  1. Hi Marta, glad to see you have Little Miss Sunshine on your list also. I was too lazy to do the full 24 question meme …

  2. Hi missv!
yes, that is a movie I’ll remember fondly with a big grin on my face. And I chose to do the full meme because I am so rarely posting lately that I thought… what the heck? let’s just make it worth a long post!
Thanks for stopping by, by the way! :)
